I witnessed the drawing for ballot position for the February primary at the NYS Board of Elections this morning . They use a Bingo set to randomly pull numbers to determine the order that candidates appear on the ballot.

Ron Paul was first on the candidate list thanks to Jim Ostrowski's early request submission to the Board, and the first ball drawn was number 1! so Ron Paul will be at the top of the primary ballot!

I assume that primary voters are a little more motivated than those in the general election, and that ballot position is not as important because of this, but it certainly can't hurt.

For those who are interested, here's how the candidates will be placed:

1 Ron Paul
2 Alan Keyes
3 Duncan Hunter
4 Tom Tancredo (although I just heard he's bowed out)
5 Rudy Giuliani
6 Mitt Romney
7 Mike Huckabee
8 John McCain
9 Fred Thompson

Here's a link to our interview with Jeff Gaul, a local Ron Paul Meetup Group organizer. William McMillen is the Host of the show. Also included are clips from Ron Paul Rallies in NYC and Albany.

Here's the embed on the clip for the next show. I just finished this so give John a few days.
He's much faster than me.

The local Ron Paul Meetup Groups (http://ronpaul.meetup.com/340/) were instrumental in ensuring the success of the recent Ron Paul Presidential Campaign rally at the State Capitol in Albany. The turnout was good and the event was covered on the local news (http://wnyt.com/article/stories/S227845.shtml?cat=300)

Jim Ostrowski, a long time libertarian activist from Buffalo, presented a request to the NY State Board of Elections asking the Board to put Ron Paul on the primary ballot in February due to his national stature. Dr Paul's recent fundraising success, raising $5 million in the last quarter, puts him in third position for cash on hand, behind only Giuliani and Romney. October 16th, the day of the rally, was the first day for potential candidates to make such a request.

According to the recently released BOE primary calendar, Ron Paul should be guaranteed a place on the ballot because he qualifies for federal matching funds (although hasn't requested). (http://www.elections.state.ny.us/NYSBOE/law/2007PPBallotAccessCalendar.pdf)
